Gili Air guide
As I’m your Gili Air guide, I’m telling you it wasn’t easy for me at all to choose one island out of three amazing Gili islands! Of course, I could go to all the islands, but I prefer to stay in one place and make it home, not moving around like I did in Koh Tao, Thailand.
Gili Air Guide #1- Why Gili Air?
After listening to all the stories from fellow travelers I met in Kuta, Seminyak, Ubud in Bali, and long consideration, I finally made a decision to go straight to Gili Air. Gili Trawangan is well-known as a party island. Gili Meno is an island for honeymooners. My choice was perfect. Gili Air was not too quiet, not too loud. Gili Air is a perfect island for a person like me who still wants to have fun but in the chill vibes.

Gili Air Guide #1 – When to go to Gili Air
Best time to go to Gili Air
The wet season ends at the end of March, but there still a chance to rain in the beginning and the middle of April. And the high season starts from May and it hits the peak time in July and August. I went to Gili Air at the beginning of April, it rained only a couple of days, and the rest of my stay was very pleasant. Blue sky, clear turquoise water, the strong sun… I couldn’t want more from Gili Air. September and October are still considered good months to visit since the weather is still very nice, but the island has fewer travelers than usual.
Avoid Ramadan period if you want to enjoy Gili Air (Gili Islands) more fun!
But don’t visit Gili Islands and Lombok when it’s Ramadan. Unlike Bali, the religion in other parts of Indonesia including Gili Islands and Lombok is Islam. It’s hard for me to say you can enjoy your time in Gili Air the fullest during Ramadan if you expect to drink and dance while you are there. So I recommend avoiding visits to Gili Air and other parts of Gili islands during Ramadan period.
