Top 10 things to do in Hoi An Vietnam
Hoi An is one of the most beautiful and the most visited cities in Vietnam, that’s why it’s quite busy with both locals and foreign tourists, but it’s a slow city compared to Saigon or Hanoi. Hoi An is a city for everyone. You can see many Vietnamese couples having their wedding photo shoot, tourist sipping Vietnamese coffee at nice coffee shops, and backpackers cycling around the old town of Hoi An. There are many things to see and do in and out of Hoi An, but here are Top 10 things to do in Hoi An that I found lovely.
1.Explore Hoi An Ancient Town
The first thing to do on my Top 10 things to do in Hoi An Vietnam is to explore Hoian Ancient town. Unlike other cities in Vietnam, Hoi An is well-preserved the old town of Vietnam. It looks very authentic. The colorful old buildings and lanterns are so beautiful. When you walk around Hoi An Ancient town, you feel like you are back to old days in Vietnam. Famous historical sites where you can visit are Fukian assembly hall, Quang Trieu assembly hall, The old house of Phun Hung, Chau Zhou Hall, and Japanese bridge.
There are many shops you can buy cheap souvenirs, beautifully made colorful lanterns, Vietnamese traditional clothes, and paintings. And You can take a boat to cruise around Hoi An Ancient Town as well. At night, Hoi An Ancient town turned even prettier with all the vibrant lanterns. It creates romantic vibes!
You can also have your own photoshoots with your friends for fun! Hoi An Ancient Town(Hoi An old town) has so much to offer!
2.Visit Central Market in Hoi An
Visiting a local market is my favorite thing to do when I go to a new city. So the second thing to do on Top 10 things to do in Hoi An will be visiting Central Market! Central Market in Hoi An is very busy and lively with both locals and tourists. It’s so lovely to see old Vietnamese ladies with their cute triangle shaped Vietnamese hats selling colorful vegetables and fruits on a very busy street! Also, there are many small shops that you can buy from Vietnamese bowls and plates to cute tops and leather bags around Hoi An Central Market!
3.Enjoy beach time on An Bang beach
The good thing about being in Hoi An is that you can enjoy city life and beach time at the same time! Anbang beach is not the nicest beach I’ve ever been to, but An Bang beach is pretty nice compared to any other beaches in Vietnam! But the waves are quite big and strong. So be careful and don’t go too far in Anbang beach!
4. Check out Coconut Village Hoi An (Cam Thanh Water Coconut village)
Hoi An Ancient Town is really nice but it’s also good to change the view for a couple of hours! Visiting Cam Thanh Water Coconut Village is becoming very popular things to do in Hoi An. It’s much quieter than Hoi An city center and it’s a good way to see local people lives around this Hoi An coconut village. I went to this village by bicycle and took a slow walk there but you can rent a bamboo boat to explore Water Coconut Village.
5.Go on a day trip to Mỹ Sơn
Mỹ Sơn is one of the most popular tourist attractions around Hoi An. It became a UNESCO Heritage Site since 1999. Mỹ Sơn is a complex of Hindu temples built between 4th and 14th century AD to worship the god Shiva by the Kings of Champa. But there are only some ruins left at Mỹ Sơn now because many of them were ruined during the time of Vietnam War.
Is it worth visiting Mỹ Sơn?
I think it’s worth visiting Mỹ Sơn if you haven’t been to beautiful places with magnificent ancient ruins like Ayutthaya in Thailand or Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Even though you visited old ruins of Ayutthaya or temples in Angkor, it’s still cool to visit once if you have enough time in Hoi An.
6. Visit Marble Mountains
Marble mountains are very popular touristic spots between Hoi An and Da Nang. But Marble Mountains are worth visiting once if you are in Hoi An(or Da Nang). They have 5 mountains and there are limestone caves connecting these 5 mountains.
7.Visit Tailor shops in Hoi An
Getting a tailored suit or dress is one of the typical things to do in Hoi An. Many travelers are so excited to come and get a suit or a dress that fits them perfectly! And it’s much cheaper to get tailored clothes in Hoi An than their own countries and Vietnamese tailors do their job very well. If you always wanted to have a perfect dress with perfect size just for you, visit local tailoring shops in Hoi An. You will love it.
8. Taste delicious Banh Mi at Banh Mi Queen(Madam Khanh)
Banh Mi is a Vietnamese sandwich. Banh Mi is simple but so delicious that it’s very popular for both traveler and locals. Then why I recommend trying Banh Mi at Banh Mi Queen? I already tried Banh mi in other places in Vietnam, but Banh Mi at Banh Mi Queen(Madam Khanh) was so good!
I went there with a group of people from my hostel. At first, I wasn’t so hungry, so I just shared one with my friend. It tasted so good that I had to go back. I went to Banh Mi Queen at least once a day while I was staying in Hoi An. Once you try it, you will know why people love Banh Mi Queen! 😉
9.Eat Cao Lau
Cao Lau is a must-try dish in Hoi An. Unlike Pho or other noodle dishes in Vietnam, Cao Lao is a dry dish without broth. Cao Lau has thick rice noodles like Udon with fried pork in pork-based brown sauce and fresh herbs on the top. It only costs from 15,000 VND to 50,000 VND.
Before I came to Hoi An, the only Vietnamese food that I knew and I loved was Pho and Vietnamese wrap. But after trying Cao Lau in Hoi An, I fell in love with Cao Lao! If you are tired of Pho and rice, Cao Lau will be your meal in Hoi An!
10.Try Vietnamese coffee in Hoi An Ancient Town
I’m a coffee lover and a coffee addict. Some of my friends who traveled to Vietnam(they are coffee lovers like me), they told me they liked Vietnamese coffee so much. I already tried Vietnamese coffee in HCMC(Saigon) but I found there are so many nice coffee shops in Hoi An. You can find beautiful Vietnamese coffee shops everywhere in Hoi An old town. Just pick wherever you feel like and enjoy your day sipping strong Vietnamese coffee. You’ll love it!
