Before telling you about Best things to do in Malacca for one day
Malacca(Melaka) is a small city that many people visit for a really short time on their way to Singapore or from Singapore. You can cover almost every Malacca’s tourist attraction and do best things to do in Malacca for one day. I will give you tips about best things to do in Malacca for one day!
Best things to do in Malacca for one day
1.Malacca Dutch Square
Malacca Clock Tower & Queen Victoria’s Fountain & Christ Church Malacca
Visiting Malacca Dutch Square is the first thing to do on Best things to do in Malacca for one day list! Dutch Square is a starting point of Malacca trip. Dutch Square is one stop before Jonker Street(China Town). You will be welcomed by many Asian selfie lovers near Queen Victoria’s Fountain in the middle of Dutch Square. Then, make a quick visit to Christ Church Malacca when you are at Dutch Square.
Time to move to Malacca A’Famosa(Maleka A’Famosa)!
After checking out Melaka Dutch Square, you will walk to Maleka A’Famosa which is the second thing to do on Best things to do in Malacca for one day list!
- Location: Click here to see Dutch Square on the map.
- Location to A Famosa: Walk left on this way to go to A Famosa.
2.Visit Malacca A Famosa
A Famosa is a must-see tourist attraction for every visitor in Malacca. Visiting A Famosa is one of best things to do for every visitor in Malacca. A Famosa is a Portuguese fortress built in 1511 in Malacca. Unfortunately, there’s only the Porta de Santiago (which looks like a gate) left.

3. St. Paul’s Hill & St. Paul’s Church Malacca (Melaka)
When you visit A’Famosa ruins, you will notice that there are stairs to the Hill. Don’t be afraid of stairs! Do some workout! 😉 After walking up the Hill like 3-5 minutes, you will see the turquoise-colored water from the top of St. Paul’s Hill. Seeing this beautiful view with a nice and cool breeze is like a welcome present of St. Paul’s Church. After cooling down a bit, you will see old ruins of St. Paul’s Church. It’s the oldest church in Southeast Asia. It’s worth visiting when you plan to travel to Malacca! 🙂
4. Stroll around Malacca Jonker Street (Jonker Walk)
I bet you can guess Melaka Jonker Street (Jonker Walk) is a part of China Town if you see the picture above. Jonker Street is a street full of souvenir shops, and clothing stores. It’s not that special that I was a bit disappointed, but it will be one of the best things to do in Malacca for one day if you come to Jonker Street (Jonker Walk) on the weekend!
Malacca Jonker Street Night Market on the weekend
Jonker Street (Jonker Walk) gets busier and lively on the weekend thanks to its Jonker Street Night Market! I recommend visiting Jonker Street on Friday or on Saturday! You can buy different kinds of cheap food, souvenirs, and clothes for a good price! They are cheaper than usual price and street food at the night market was really nice! (But nowhere in Southeast Asia can beat Chiang Mai night market!)

5. Walk along Malacca Jalan Tokong
What does Jalan mean?
Jalan means street in Malay. I stayed at an accommodation on Jalan Tokong. This street is part of China Town full of Chinese residents. I think walking along Jalan Tokong will be one of the most interesting things for you from Best things to do in Malacca for one day list!
What’s so special about Jalan Tokong?
Jalan Tokong has three different religious buildings on the same street! I was really pleasantly surprised to see an Indian temple, a mosque called Kampung Kling Mosque and Tao temple Cheng Hoon Teng temple! While all the religions in the world insisting they are the best religions and ignoring other religions, here are three different religions co-existing on the same street Jalan Tokong! I loved it!
Malacca Cheng Hoon Teng Temple
If you visited Penang already, then you can skip Cheng Hoon Teng Temple since it’s similar to typical Tao temples in Penang, Malaysia. If you haven’t visited any Tao temples, it doesn’t hurt to visit once.

Malacca Kampung Kling Mosque
It’s a cute small mosque that you can visit but you should wear a gown that covers your body if you are a woman.

6.Explore small streets in Malacca City
There are nice street arts in most cities in Malaysia. Malacca isn’t an exception. Malacca city has pretty good street arts. I walked around the small streets randomly with my friend. We found cute kittens chilling on a quiet street, and we saw funny mural paintings on the walls. It was like finding treasures!
7. Chilling on one of Malacca river bars at night
After 9 pm, the whole city falls asleep, so the street gets really quiet. But don’t disappoint too early. You still got one of the best things to do in Malacca for a one day! There are river bars alone Malacca river. I grabbed some beers with my friend when I was in Malacca. It was nice to sit near the river, have nice conversations with a good company. I think this is one of the best things to do in Malacca at night. 🙂
