Bali, Gili islands, Bangkok, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Tao, Koh Phangan, Koh Samui, Chiang Mai, Pai, Siem Reap, Koh Rong Samloem, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and Saigon…? Do they sound familiar? Yes, they are all very popular backpacking and holiday destinations in Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Vietnam. Why are people so crazy about Southeast Asia? Here are reasons why you should travel to Southeast Asia from my 2-years travel experience.
Top 5 Reasons Why You Should Travel to Southeast Asia
Unlike Europe, Southeast Asia is one of the cheapest places you can travel. For instance, Pad Thai on the street of Bangkok only costs about 1 euro! Even though you order an Asian meal in Southeast Asia is about 2-5 euros. And you can find a bunk bed at a hostel that is about 3-5 euros in Southeast Asia! A day boat trip in Koh Phi Phi costs only 15 euros!
Food, hostels, and travel activities in Southeast Asia are not only cheap but also they are very nice! You can even get a private room for 8 euros in Southeast Asia! How amazing is that? In Europe, you can only have a sandwich and maybe a coffee for 8 euros! Believe me, Southeast Asia is so cheap that you can treat yourself and money at your bank account won’t drain so quickly!
2.Easy to travel
Traveling in Southeast Asia is much easier than traveling in Europe. In Europe, the price of the accommodations or transportation will increase dramatically if you don’t book ahead. So you need to plan your travel route first and then book hotels, hostels, trains, and flights.
But in Southeast Asia, the price of buses and trains are almost fixed at the same price! You can book your next travel a day before your actual travel date unless it’s a flight booking. Most times you don’t even have to book your journey in advance. You can just show up early at the train or bus station, and you can still get a ticket to your next travel destination. How easy is that?
3. Easier to meet new people
One of the amazing things about traveling is to meet up with someone from different countries and different culture. You will have a chance to understand the world better through sharing time with them. But if you’ve ever traveled in Europe, you will realize there are many holidaymakers. Of course, you can find backpackers in Europe but they tend to travel with a group of friends or family. This makes us not so easy to meet new people in Europe even at the hostel.
But in Southeast Asia, many travelers are young and love to travel as a solo, so they want to be connected with new people. And everyone seems to travel mostly the same routes, so they are willing to communicate with you to get travel information like good hostels, how to travel safe, travel recommendations. It makes people bond with each other better than Europe. It’s also fun to travel with some of the fellow travelers that you have good connection with and you will make amazing memories that will last longer with them!
