Before checking out best things to do in Gili Air
When you decide to come to Gili Air, I think you already decided not to have crazy parties like in Koh Tao. Yes, Gili Air is a perfect place to relax. Here are best things to do in Gili Air and the only things I did on Gili Air. 🙂
Best things to do in Gili Air
1.Enjoy being lazy
One of the best things to do in Gili Air is being lazy! Gili Air is a perfect island that you can get up late, eat late breakfast, lay on the beach, and read books you want to read. Nobody judges you for getting up late and not being productive here in Gili Air. 🙂
2.Chill out at Reggae Bar
I love Reggae bars. People at the Reggae bars are the most relaxed and laid-back in general. It’s really nice to be around people like that. Everyone becomes friends, talk, drink, and smoke… Why not? 🙂
Reggae bar in Gili Air is only the bar which opens until 2-3 am in Gili Air. If you want to get some beer and chill after midnight, this Reggae Bar is the place to go.
3.Watch the sunset
If you followed me on my Instagram @exploreyourlifenow, you already know that I’m a sunset-chaser! If are a sunset addict like me, watching the sunset is one of the best things to do in Gili Air! 🙂 You can watch the sunset better in the southwest(near the pier), the west, and the northwest of the island. There are many nice beach bars that you can enjoy Gili Air sunsets! All you need to do is just choose the right bar for you, grab a drink, and watch the sunset! 😉
4.Watch the stars at night
Watching the stars at night is another best things to do in Gili Air! Unlike Kuta, Bali, Gili Air has no light pollution since most restaurants and bars close around midnight. Yes, now you can see so many beautiful stars… Get one random wooden sunbed in restaurants & bars, and lie down on it. There you go. The endless shining stars will make you calm and peaceful. Watching the stars in Gili Air late at night was such a special moment that I can never forget. I felt so grateful to be in this world and have a chance to this especially for a person like me who grew up in a big city never sleeps. I hope you like it too!
5. Enjoy the movie night at the Mexican restaurant
I know… a Mexican restaurant in Gili Air? Not so me. Not so local. When I travel, I stick to local food all the time since trying the local food is one of the best ways to learn about the culture, to help you avoid getting sick(usually). But sometimes I have cravings for Mexican food as well! After eating amazing burritos at Mexican kitchen, the owner offered us to watch some films(since the night in Gili Air is pretty quiet). I watched The Darjeeling Limited. It was really good! The owner has a different selection of movies you can choose from. Having an amazing Mexican food and watching a great movie can be another best things to do in Gili Air! You will love it.
If you are becoming sick and tired of being lazy (who does…?! At least not me… 😉 ), go for snorkeling! Gili Air is a great place to go for snorkeling! The water is so clear and the visibility is very good! Also, you can see turtles if you are lucky!
You can either go on a snorkeling trip or go snorkeling on your own with your friends. It’s very cheap to rent snorkeling gears like snorkeling masks and fins, and it’s enough to see beautiful fish just around Gili Air. But if you want to check out different spots around neighboring islands like Gili Trawangan and Gili Meno, book a snorkeling trip!
- Price for a snorkeling trip: 100,000 Rp. The boat takes you to 4-5 different snorkeling spots around Gili Air, Gili Trawangan, and Gili Meno. The price includes boat trip and snorkeling gears.
